Hi Everyone,
I can create visual books using pictures (combinations of symbols and photos) with words. Each word in the sentence would have a picture
and each word and picture can be laminated so different combinations of words with pictures can be put together to create sentences.
If you contact my personal email .. ppusey@sympatico.ca ..
I can send an example of a "mini-PECS book page and sentence strip"
as an attachment.
The attachment will show an example page from a "mini-PECS book" I created for a family.
The visual books could be made with either a large binder or a small binder.
The picture symbols were used from the BOARDMAKER program created by the Mayer-Johnson http://www.mayer-johnson.com
Along with the symbols I can use photos that you can send me to personalize your son or daughter`s learning materials. I can also use
"image search" from GOOGLE to find pictures.
I use the exact words you want your son or daughter to learn and try to match these words with the best symbols or pictures.
When I work with the pictures, I usually delete the backgrounds so your son or daughter would concentrate on the item pictured
ie. this removes the distraction factor.
The pictures with words are then cut out and laminated to make laminated picture/word cards, then velcro is attached.
These are then used on a velcro base and "sentence strips".
The "mini-PECS book" I created recently for a family was totally personalized to their son`s needs:
Their son is learning:
- picture recognition
- word recognition with the pictures as visual cues.
- fine motor and hand-eye coordination
- early sentence structure
These pages can also be used to teach categorization.
I have modified simple reading books by adding laminated picture cards some times instead of straight words
or adding real pictures instead of cartoon pictures: because that is what your son or daughter would see in his or her own
environment.
Pages created in the above "mini-PECS book" were/are:
Page 1 - "I want" .. "TO"
- "Give me" .. THE
- "I" .. "feel"
- The "sentence strip" is velcroed onto this page. The velcro strip is removable so the child begins the
sentence with cards from one of the combinations above (on page 1), then will flip to the appropriate page of laminated picture cards to be able to finish the sentence.
Page 2 - "read" .. "book".
Page 3 - "play with" - plus toy options ie. toycar, fish game, ball, balloon, marbles, computer, puppet, video game, shaker, bead maze,
letter puzzle, number puzzle, etc.
Page 4 - "play" - plus options - piano, hide n` seek, chase, race, baseball, bowling, Yahtzee, hungry hippo, computer
Page 5 - "lie down" .. "ON" - plus options ie. bed, couch, blanket, pillow, floor, carpet
Page 6 - "listen" .. "TO" - plus options - music (picture of music notes), radio, CD, music (picture of a portable CD player),
bird, story
Page 7 - "go" - plus options - outside, downstairs, upstairs, home, skating, skiing, by car, bike ride, swimming.
Page 8 - "go" .. "TO" - plus options - toy store, grocery store, park, pool, museum, farm, library,
living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc.
Page 9 - "look" .. "AT" - plus options - bee, bird, picture, book, airplane, cat, dog, etc.
Page 10 - "watch" - plus options - TV, DVD, video tape
Page 11 - "drink" - juice (apple, orange, fruit, grape),milk, water
Page 12 - "eat" - apple, orange, grapes, banana, cereal, toast, bagel, meat, yogurt, pretzels, ice cream
Page 13 - feelings options - excited, happy, sad, worried, mad, scared, hurt, tired surprised, sick, hot, cold, hungry, thirsty.
*** With the above "emotions" I created my own set of emotion pictures
which are more realistic than the BOARDMAKER picture symbols.
I can create the exact words and pictures that you would like for your own son or daughter.
I have created groups of pictures and categories using pictures from cartoons, toys and real items to help children learn to generalize.
Other uses for the picture systems I create and make can visual break down items, activities, etc. that need to be learned into
visual sequences. ........ Also, visual schedules can be made. .. eg. morning routine, bedtime routine, school schedules, etc.
These are ways to have a child learn and gain independance.
You can check out my website www.picturecardcommunication.com for some examples.
Check out ie. "click on" SAMPLES, KEYS and PROGRAMS.
This will give you an idea of some of the items I have created for families.
My prices are based on $10.00 per laminated sheet used PLUS PST (8%).
Eg. the page you would see in "THE ATTACHMENT I can send" would be $20.00 plus $1.60 PST = $21.60
*** Additional cost would be the binder and velcro.
I can send examples to you by email attachments.
Please let me know if I can help you.
Sincerely,
